The AMT “patch” which Congress upheld in a new impulse check saved twenty-four million taxpayers from falling in to a AMT in 2009. As we referred to in a final article, this during a moment bound a complaint caused by Congress’ strange disaster to index a AMT for inflation.

Not-so-common believe is which a AMT additionally contingency be paid via a year – if we wait for until Apr 15, 2010 to compensate your 2009 AMT, we could be theme to poignant underpayment penalties.

Employees – a self-denial tables your employer uses do not embody any guess for a AMT. If we wish this withheld, we have to have a mathematics yourself as well as ask an a single some-more volume funded from any paycheck. With usually 9 months left in a year, we already have a little throwing up to do.

Self-employeds – your quarterly estimates contingency embody your approaching AMT liability. With 1st entertain estimates due subsequent Wednesday, Apr 15, we have a little discerning working out to do to equivocate risking an underpayment penalty.

How do we know either we will be profitable a AMT in 2009? Some have make use of of a “same as final year” approach, though this is imprecise as well as carries a underpayment risk. You can foresee your income as well as losses for a year as well as afterwards do an AMT calculation formed upon this forecast, or we can have make use of of an “annualization” approach. 2. It depends on your expenses. I tell my clients that a good general rule is to pay in 25% of your GROSS earnings before any expenses. That should come very close to covering your Fed bill. But, as I mentioned, it will depend on how much you have for expenses.

  6. I’ve been a J&K listener and usual supporter since ‘95 and am so grateful for them fighting & exposing all the financial wast and corruption however I fear in the future that many of the same people protesting including myself will be fighting John & Ken since both adamantly put down Ron Paul or anyone who believes in the obvious globalist conspiracy to undermine our country.

Not to mention John’s a big believer in the AMA & big pharma, and very ignorantly puts down alternative medicine.

  10. These parties are for pussies. If you really want to do something about the situation – JUST STOP WORKING. When there is no work, there is nothing to TAX. Work as little as you can. Live as cheap as you can and have fun with family and friends.

The more you work and consume, the more money you give the government, your enemy.

  11. Why don’t they fix the budget by giving tickets to the millions of people who don’t put a front license plate on their vehicles, which I think is a $350 fine and also fine all the people who are storing junk cars on their front lawns and in the street and who store basketball hoops in the street and on the sidewalks and who play basketball all day long in the street and who have tons of dry brush in their yards which is a fire hazard and even the city has tons of fields full of dry brush and along the sidewalks and roads and why not investigate mobbing and gangstalking and see who is in on that.

  12. you don't need to do those. just put in a similar number to your current total gross income. you will be fine.

This is saying that YOU should estimate if you will make the same amount of money next year… if you are anticipating certain raises you may want to put the higher total gross estimate because you will not be taxed enough if you cross a tax bracket and do not change your tax status.

    good luck.

  16. I had this happen once. If your estimated payments equal or exceed your previous year liability then there is not suppose to be a penalty BUT if your previous year liability or estimated payments was $0 then they don't honor that rule.

It would be better to play it safe and pay in something every quarter or at least during the first quarter to cover what you estimate.

Also IF you paid self employment taxes, those taxes ARE part of your tax liability and unless they are covered by taxes withheld from an employer on another job, you could be penalized for not making quarterly payments to cover the self employment taxes.

I had over $8000 in self employment earnings last year but I also had a job that payed $30,000. At my job I claim zero dependents and single status but on my return I file as married filing jointly with 2 dependents so the extra taxes withheld from my pay at my job are more than enough to pay my income and self-employment taxes from my sideline businesses. In fact I expect a sizable refund.
